I want to go back just so I can take the Haunted Mansion ride for hours and hours on end.

Is it true that the Mansion was purchased on an adjustable rate mortgage? That would haunt me.

My first instinct: no. Why not try visiting a new city. I'd highly recommend places like Boulder, San Diego, or Toronto.

I do like Boulder. I've stayed there for weeks at a time while performing at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, though, so it wouldn't exactly be new. Toronto is actually intriguing, and I do have friends there.

Would San Diego fulfill a lifelong feeling of being deprived of a childhood imperative? On that record, it's going to be hard to compete with Disneyland.

Fulfill your childhood imperative, I say. It sounds like you've been yearning to go for dog's years -- if you've got the time and the money, why not now?

I'm not a Disneyland person, but admit that the pop-culture tour of southern CA is touchingly awful and quite enlightening. Recommended: Disneyland, followed by Medieval Times (surprisingly entertaining with unintelligible subtext made exciting and relevant by huge flagons of beer and enormous slabs of half chickens), "Little Saigon" (Westminster, CA), the Crystal Cathedral (fascinating to see what a little televangelism can buy), and possibly a deep-fried Twinkie (drizzled with raspberry coulis) and a Pat Benatar concert at the Orange County Fair.

I guess...if there's nothing else tickling your fancy at this time. There are certainly worse things to do, like attending fundraisers for Coca Cola CEOs, or sitting through a terrible and long open mic.

If it's just one of those things you've always wanted to do, why not?

A supposedly fun thing I'll never do again.

I haven't been to Disney since I was a kid, but I'm not a Disney guy. I prefer the dirty, small fun parks with creaking wooden roller coasters and employees that list "drifter" as their previous employment on their resume written on the back of a lost dog poster.

There are a lot of lines at Disney, long ones. The best parts are the bits left over from long ago.

My best theme park childhood memories are from Dogpatch USA. Which is now closed. Sigh. So much for reliving my happy times!

Wha... did you suddenly have children and not tell anybody?

Which is to say: no.

I agree with the suggestion that you ought to visit a city you've never been to. You would of course be welcome to visit SLC, if you were inclined.

it will only make you feel clever, and you will learn nothing new.

what place will make you feel stupid, and teach you a thing or two? that's a better place to go.

If it's something you've never done and always wanted to...then I'd say go for it. But I'd rather head to one of the Six Flags, Cedar Point, or some older amusement park.

Although...the haunted mansion does kick ass.
